As Apple is moving towards limiting and, potentially, discontinuing support for 32 bit applications, multiple users inquired about a 64 bit version of PolarView. Given the amount of popular demand, we intend to release a 64 bit version of PolarView for MacOS in the early summer 2018.
At the same time, MacOS PowerPC version of PolarView will be discontinued.
Release announcement will be available on this blog.

An update on product licensing and availability. We were informed by a data licensor that the product access to PolarView NS must be no less restrictive than access to the data source. Free application with fee-based network data access is not compatible with the licensing requirements.
Product compliance requires us to either provide free data access or implement application licensing as well. Nice though it may be, free data access and free application is clearly not financially feasible.
So, not without some reservations, but also with hope for a more sustainable outlook, PolarView NS will, again, require a subscription to use. PolarView NS subscription will be included, along with data access, as part of either US or UK chart subscription.
We expect the updated version of PolarView to be available for download in the next few days.

PolarView 3.0 is being readied for release in the near future. The next version will bring changes to product licensing, and these are the changes we hope you’ll like.
PolarView will be free to install and use, and that includes chart viewer, route and waypoint planning, live navigation, AIS, NMEA instruments, GRIB display and more.
To access optional online services, such as chart, GRIB and POI downloads, users will need an account and a subscription.
In preparation for upcoming changes current order page has been taken offline. More information will be posted on this blog and support forums in the near future. Stay tuned!

We were just notified by ChartWorld that from January 1st, 2014 new orders of charts through PolarView NS built-in ordering system will no longer be possible. We expect that users with existing orders would be able to continue accessing updates for their charts. Please see attached message for details.
Update: we were notified by ChartWorld that the built in ordering capability cannot be restored. Existing users of built-in download will be able to continue downloading updates to their ChartWorld orders until July 2014.
For further information please contact ChartWorld directly at email@example.com
Dear Polar Navy,
Unfortunately our bank’s credit card service provider discontinues the payments via API on very short terms. The bank offers a so called ‘Payment Page’ to which the customer (at least in our webshop) will be redirected to and where the payments take place. Alas, this cannot be used within your Polar View software. This means, that from January 1st your software will not be able to process credit card payments for ChartWorld’s charts.
We’re really sorry of not having been able to inform you earlier, but we received this information some days ago. We’re eagerly looking for an alternative solution which does prevent your software from being changed, but we’re not sure if such solution exists. Anyway, we cannot provide a solution until January 1st, so payments will not be successful anymore.

As of April 15, USACE stopped providing updates to S-57 chart data set. All inland updates are now provided only for the IENC 2.2 data. PolarView 1.9.7 has been released and addresses this issue. Users are advised to upgrade to most recent version of PolarView NS to restore USACE inland chart support.
Note that the new USACE chart set used different naming convention. These charts will not replace the original USACE charts that were previously installed. You should manually delete previously installed USACE charts (names beginning with “U35”) prior to downloading these charts.
